Pancakes are typical food for US people: if you went to US, you surely tasted them.
Pancakes are a very simple food, as far as preparation and ingredients are concerned: they are a sort of crepe, a little bit taller than usual and than softer, that are cooked in a pan with butter. They could be tasted, when are warm, with maple syrup (following the American recipe) or with a chocolate sauce or jam.
It’s on your personal taste, but the original American Pancakes recipe is for me incomparable (also because you can find maple syrup in every Italian supermarket).
Pancakes
Ingredients (for 9 to 12 pancakes, depending on your pan width):
- 15 grams soft butter;
- 300 grams milk;
- 225 grams flour;
- 1 egg;
- 50 grams sugar;
- 1 tablespoon vanilla flavoured baking powder;
- butter for cooking just enough.
Traditional preparation.
Pancakes are very simple and fast to prepare: you don’t need to wait for rising, you have only to knead and cook them: this is the reason because we usually see them in American films, prepared on Sunday, with all the family around the table. Let’s see how to prepare pancakes!
Put in a bowl butter, sugar and the egg and mix them with a mixer or manually (with the mixer your job will be easier and faster).
Add milk and flour and mix again.
At the end, add the baking powder and mix a little bit more.
Preparation with Thermomix
With Thermomix, pancakes preparation is simpler.
Put in the Thermomix butter and melt it 1 minute, 70 degrees, speed 1.
Add milk, egg, sugar, flour and baking powder and mix 30 seconds, speed 6.
Gather the dough with the spatula and mix again 10 seconds, speed 6.
Cooking
Put a small piece of butter (5 grams) in a non stick pan and turn on the gas at medium flame: be careful not to burn butter, because this glitch could adulterate the taste of your pancakes.
When butter has been melted, put a spoonful of dough in the pan and, leaving the medium flame, cook it for 1 or 2 minutes: the pancake is ready to turn when you’ll see on its surface some little bubbles.
Now you can turn the pancake: let it cook for 30 seconds- 1 minute (you can verify the cooking lifting up the pancake) and remove it from the pan.
Put another small piece of butter in the pan and repeat the proceeding until you have dough.
Complete with maple syrup.
These pancakes are really delicious!
